Getting Argos to stop selling cosmetic contact lenses is a real victory for the profession and the consumer.
And how simply the final decision came.
When confronted with the detail of the new legislation by Optician Argos did not argue that catalogue sales of contact lenses should remain.
It thanked Optician for making it aware of the situation.
There is no reason why Argos should have been aware of changes in legislation, no one had brought those changes to its attention.
Perhaps others selling contact lenses in questionable circumstances would also stop if the facts of the legal position were make clear to them.
Optics needs to have fast, firm and rigorous policing of all aspects of the Section 60 changes if the legislation is to work in the profession's favour.
