In case you are wondering why Optician has a pink masthead this week then let me expand on the explanation provided on page 11 about this CooperVision-inspired campaign. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so Optician has lent its support to CooperVision's pound-a-packet donation scheme.
While there is no reason why the choice of support for breast cancer should be explained, the selection of that cause fits nicely with current soundings from the public. Firstly let's not forget the obvious. Around 44,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed every year in the UK and any support for those seeking ways to mitigate its effects must be applauded. But there are other reasons why support for mainstream charities is a good idea.
