Comment: Wising up to the web

Anyone who reads Optician, my blogs or uses www.opticianonline.net will be aware of our acceptance of the internet and enthusiasm for most things webbish. This has always been tinged with a hefty dose of reality. Ten years ago the consultants told us the internet was going to put magazines out of business.

This has always been tinged with a hefty dose of reality. Ten years ago the consultants told us the internet was going to put magazines out of business.

Thankfully they were wrong. I never believed the internet would kill off paper and ink - but I couldn't be sure. Long term, who knows? Optician faced serious threats from internet players but it has learned to play to its paper strengths while cherry-picking the elements of the web it wanted.
