Diplomas of no worth

Bill Harvey

Talking of diplomas, I have had to field some 'ironic' comments recently about our prestigious journal running and advert ( I repeat, an advert, paid for by its author) promoting the leftfield views of a famous owner of a paid for qualification. Suppression of publication is not good. However, this should never be used to imply any support for the content. The key is to ensure that the nature of the publication is transparent. This applies to all areas of writing, whethere it be refereed material, material submitted by manufacturers and commercial bodies, or view points and adverts. Does anyone think there are adverts that should not be published?
