'Sight loss is no longer an inevitable consequence of ageing' A bold statement made by the RNIB in its 'Older people and eye tests' publication last year. It goes on to say, 'Given the negative impact of sight loss on a person's quality of life, it is clearly a moral imperative to prevent sight loss by maximising the chances of early detection and timely access to treatment'. The same report concluded that fear of sight loss was more feared than other disabilities! The question is, what are we going to do about it?

A call to action to fund an effective national campaign from government and stakeholders is an admirable recommendation, and we will await its launch. However, we can do plenty ourselves to expedite the situation.
