From the High St: Changing the outlook for people with glaucoma

New year, new promises for health service reform? The start of 2025 has seen Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting once again professing his plans to shift the NHS to a prevention neighbourhood health service. The immediate focus of the latest announcement by the Westminster government was elective care, and more specifically, on cutting NHS waiting lists. Of course this will be supported by Stephen Kinnock, Minister of State for Care. 

That’s great. But it’s important that our sector continues to work together to ensure that policy-makers understand how primary care optometrists are already delivering a neighbourhood health service, and how we can do even more to support the prevention community-based service agenda.
