It is the time of year when the dangers of Halloween and Bonfire night are thrust into the public spotlight.
The risks of an eye infection after wearing cosmetic contact lenses or being blinded by an out of control firework are communicated far and wide.
For example, The Birmingham Mail has today reported the case of a 24-year-old make-up artist who feared she would go blind after a pair of cosmetic contact lenses became ‘glued to her eyes’ (see below).
The situation was remedied with some eye drops, and the GOC has used tomorrow’s Halloween happenings to stress to the public that such lenses should only be dispensed in the presence of an optical or medical practitioner.
