Have you been infiltrated?

Rory Brogan

The latest issue of Optician features a small practice study looking at the silicone hydrogel lens and multipurpose solution combinations of patients with infiltrates. The author describes the entity as 'contact lens-associated infiltrates/infiltrative keratitits' or CLAIK and suggests it is on the rise with the increase of SiH lenses fitted for daily wear in the US in particular. The causality of the cases described has not been assessed as it was a retrospective study, but the author suggests that the problem persists in his practice and it merits a further study in all regions, especially those with a high rate of DW SiH fits, including the UK. The question is, is CLAIK a US problem, or are UK practitioners experiencing similar issues?
