Too much screen time is exacerbating digital eye strain problems

A memorable advert featuring actor Kevin Bacon once warned mobile phone addicts about the perils of ‘bufferface’ – the gormless expression made while waiting for a mobile phone to refresh.

The advert identified a social problem, but there are much wider health implications of too much screen time.

From texting friends to pre-ordering a coffee, there is an endless list of tasks the smartphone is capable of these days.

Within eye care, the mobile Peek tool can take high quality retinal images to provide eye care for communities in more remote parts of the globe. This is clearly a positive use of technology.
