When the plan was hatched for a special green issue of Optician focusing on the sector’s environmental impact, August was deemed perfect timing.
Traditionally a quiet month for media outlets, it was hoped readers would be free from distraction and close enough to a deckchair to sit back and contemplate their eco values.
But in today’s politically turbulent world there is rarely a dull moment. Earlier this month US President Donald Trump found himself staring down the barrel of full-scale nuclear war, all while taking a ‘working vacation’. He then faced more fire and fury domestically, eventually ending up the lead story in Optician for his defiance of this week’s solar eclipse.
