We need to get a grip on eye test fee levels

It was interesting to read Moneo’s recently asserted preference for a particular sector of our profession although there is no indication of which practices were called in the mini-survey.

By sheer coincidence, only last week, I was walking past one local independent optician’s shop and spotted a jolly-looking chap wearing a dapper suit and – bizarrely – a sample spectacle frame, lurking in the doorway. As I approached, he hailed me, as many of his predecessors have done, to enquire whether I would like a free eye test.

Out of curiosity, I asked him how long it would take, as his antecedents had always assured me the process would take no longer than a quarter hour. When he advised only 10 minutes, I feigned incredulity and repeated the question. Warming to his task he positively gushed the same answer.
