Letter: Vision to drive

It is a good idea that driving test examiners test the sight of new drivers

I think this news item is slightly misleading (Optician p5, 09.06.17). It is not just the driving test examiner who checks your vision, you also have to state you have 6/12 acuity with both eyes open.

But I also think that it is a good idea that the driving test examiner tests the sight of new drivers. They want to be sure before getting into the car with a test candidate that the person can actually see on the day with the spectacles or contact lenses they are wearing. If you were an examiner, would you be happy if someone just produced a certificate of visual acuity, when they might not have the correct visual correction with them on the day they were going to drive you?
