I know that I have written on this issue before, but no matter how inured I am to requests from other opticians for information, I cannot understand why any optician expects the customer's previous optician to help with the dispensing.

However, when it comes to varifocals many opticians seem to think to refuse is 'unprofessional' they could not be more wrong.

I doubt that Gergana Dopson, who I see won several prizes at College (Optician, News, November 23), was taught the first lesson in dispensing varifocals is to ring the customer's previous optician for advice.

Moreover, isn't this the type of dispensing that can only be provided by the high street optician, rather than the internet as recognised by Next's online Rx service that does not extend to varifocals?
