The Midlands boasts the UK's second largest city in Birmingham, which makes up a significant part of the West Midlands conurbation that also includes Wolverhampton and Solihull.

I would like to pose a scenario to everyone this week. A contact lens-wearing patient who has been with you for several years comes to your practice for an aftercare. They have not had an eye test for over two years and being young, fit and healthy with no vision problems do not want another eye test. They state that they have not got the money to afford the eye test and just want the contact lens aftercare. What would you do?

Well, of course the regulations state that you cannot carry out the contact lens aftercare until the person has had an eye test because it is over two years since their last test. So, presumably as you are not being allowed to carry out the sight test you also refuse to do the contact lens aftercare and pray that there is nothing wrong with the lenses that could lay you open to a claim of negligence at a future date. Or do you do a sight test for free to cover yourself? Or do you do the aftercare and ignore the regulations?
