The much publicised intention of Specsavers to launch internet sales has re-ignited the debate about this growing sector of the market, not least among Specsavers' franchisees many of whom are reported to be concerned about the impact this will have on their businesses, something that the Perkins family has strenuously denied.
It is common knowledge that Jamie Murray Wells and his fellow internet suppliers are firmly focused on the same consumers as Specsavers and other chains and supermarkets who target the lower end of the market. With its pre-eminent position in this sector it is hardly surprising that Specsavers is looking to protect its market share against these distance supply predators and it is common knowledge that there is not much love lost between them.
