Calling an election is always a dangerous thing to do, so having had a week's gardening holiday, I was somewhat perturbed to see that our news editor, Joe Ayling, had decided to write the leader column on the outcome of the election.
The timing of Optician's press day means the comment has to be written on a Monday for publication on the Friday. This year there was the small matter of a General Election on the Thursday in between. Not a massive risk in the grand scheme of things with mention of opinion on polls and all but by Wednesday the wind appeared to be blowing very strongly in the direction of the other side.
