Our profession has lost its way

Over the past 15 years our profession has been turned from a national service available to all for the screening of diabetes, glaucoma, cataract and AMD; to one which is no longer competent to do any of this without a string of extra qualifications in entry level subjects

Over the past 15 years our profession has been turned from a national service available to all for the screening of diabetes, glaucoma, cataract and AMD (all largely paid for out of practice revenue as part of our duty of care); to one which is no longer competent to do any of this without a string of extra qualifications in entry level subjects.

This was a journey started for political expediency after the heinous crimes of Harold Shipman  GP and marked by events like the introduction of lay retinal cameras and the dubious research in glaucoma screening and the measurement of Intra Ocular Pressure (NICE guidelines).
