Going back nearly four years, the optical profession was celebrating its inclusion of eye health indicators in the government’s Public Health Outcomes Framework.
After much initial excitement, the posturing and celebrating has somewhat waned over the years.
In the background, Locsu has developed new pathways and recommended an evidence based approach to winning new community eye care schemes. While the indicator forms one part of this, the grandly named data repository project represents a far more complete data gathering tool.
As for the eye health indicator, Optician took some time this week to familiarise itself with the data set.
It has been collected by Moorfields Eye Hospital for new Certifications of Visual Impairment (CVI) due to AMD, diabetes and glaucoma for those aged 40 years old and above, per 100,000 population.
