Simon Jones: Time for a spa day

During 100% Optical last weekend (February 24-26), it was suggested by one or two people that the myopia management intervention market may have reached full maturity – certainly in terms of extracting maximum profit. There are now several different treatment and product options, and cheaper products are starting to make treatment more accessible.

So, what’s the next frontier for optometry? According to nothing but my anecdotal conversations from the show, business-savvy practice owners should be looking at the dry eye market once again. Technology such as intense regulated pulsed light and heated eye mask massagers, are opening a whole new suite of treatments for the 20% of the world’s population that suffer with dry eye.
