Simon Jones: What did I miss?

A week in optics is a long time, but a week off seems like even longer.

During my time off, the lay of the land in optometry apprenticeship has changed significantly. When Optician broke the news to the sector back in early September, I was a little bit surprised by the lack of any discernible pushback – maybe a few raised eyebrows. That’s no longer the case.

At the time of writing, a petition on change.org has notched up 11,000 signatures. It’s rallying cry is that the profession needs to rise and reject the proposals, following the likes of pharmacists who have successfully defended their profession from being devalued.
