I note that OT have run the story about the sleep mask which, according to Dr Stuart English, lead researcher of the project quoted in their story, “is a treatment for macular eye disease that is non-invasive, saving lots of money over existing treatments such as using lasers and injections into the eye.” I heard about this some while back and was unable to find any published evidence base to check its integrity. If anyone knows more please let me know. The theory is that light stimulation during sleep hours stimulates retinal metabiolism and thereby reduces either inflammatory or ischaemic response. There appears to be no concerns about disruption of circadian rhythms. The story quotes 'extensive trials.' It would be good to hear about these methinks.
