Sorry...let me explain

By popular request here is the explanation behind the picture of me with a medal. As you may well know I am training to do an Ironman triathlon This is well known in my office and one of out production people, who is a keen runner, had a spare race number. He had entered an off road half marathon but as he wasn't feeling up to it he offered me the place. The race was the Surrey Slog, a cross country half marathon through the Surrey hills ( yes there are some). Despite the weather forecast being for torrential rain it was a very hot and humid Sunday morning when the race took place. The terrain was hilly, very rocky and broken up after the recent poor weather so it was a tough one. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and, given it was my very first competitive race, felt 2hrs and a bit wasn't bad given the race leader took 1hr 30. It was good experience and made me aware of my capabilities as on finishing I felt I could have run it again! The next one will be much quicker. For a veteran of 44 the most pleasing part was overtaking the young 'uns as I increased the pace over the last couple of miles. I must have done well as they gave me a medal!
