Ask not what National Eye Week can do for you but what you can do for National Eye Week.  Apologies to John F Kennedy but I wanted to make a point about people's attitude towards optics.

There is yet another round of breast beating going on in the profession about how optics is seen by the public and the impressionis being given that that impression is formed by marketeers or public relations officers. Not so. People's experience of optics will depend on those working within optics.

Typically and once upon a time people respected their optometrist and waited while he granted them an appointment. These days people have got to want to see their optician and she has got to engage them in optics.
