The apprenticeship question

‘What made you decide to become an optometrist?’ This was a question posed to me by one of my long-standing friends the other day. It was not the first time I have been asked this, but it set me thinking.  

There seems to be so much dissatisfaction around generally these days, and, especially in younger generations a lot of seeming indecision as to life choices at an early stage.  

Now, let me say at the outset, I do not view that as a bad thing. Far from it. In many ways, looking back, I wish I had had the freedom to take longer to make certain life choices.
