Here is an end of season update to thank everyone who supported Optician’s charity fundraising this year.
The main fundraising for Opticians sporting challenge was through the Alpe d’Huez triathlon and the Prudential Ride London100. The totals raised for @SeeAbility and @BlindVeteransUK stand at £830 and £610 respectively. I was unable to compete in the Sussex original tri due to a family birthday so there is one last event to tackle – this time for fun not charity.
Alongside the @Bolle_Eyewear Shifter cycling sunglass the events, and the training, have been a good opportunity to try out some multifocal contact lenses. I am also now recognisable in parts of Surrey thanks to my @CooperVision cycling kit and wide array of running and cycling eyewear from the likes of Marchon’s Nike, Hoya and adidas.
With a swim in the offing it’s time to break out the @AquaSphere UK Racer wetsuit once again as I take on the Exmoor Swim. This is a little different from my usual cycle sportives and triathlons as the Exmoor Swim is an open water swim in Wimbleball reservoir just on the edge of Exmoor. There are 2km, 4km and 6km options on offer. With my shoulder still not back to 100% form I decided to opt for the 4km.
While we were all enjoying a balmy August the thought of a swim seemed quite enticing one. Just a few weeks and the autumn knocking on our door things look a little different. I haven’t worn a wetsuit outside of an event since the spring but things are getting a little chilly to say the least. A cheeky 1km swim in the Brockwell lido, water 17 degrees, made me realise that I am not immune to the cold.
Alongside the racer wetsuit I will also be investing in a Dry Robe – a cross between a sleeping bag and towel and a tent. You wear it to warm up, dry off and change under when you get out of the water.
I may not swim any faster but at least I'll be warm when I get out.
