The View from the High Street

There is a new car smell about CooperVision's-headquarters near Fareham in Hampshire. From the outside it could be the nerve centre of a mobile phone company or a bank. Once inside, however, there is no mistaking the brand spanking new £15m HQ belongs to a contact lens company.

On Thursday morning last week I arrived at work to a flurry of camera flashes and crowds of people blocking my way. Unfortunately, they were not there for me. Models Helena Christensen, Erin O'Connor and Jamelia were in Boots The Chemist, Oxford Street to launch a new haircare product. Just one of the events arranged on a regular basis in Oxford Street to attract customers and promote new products.

Retailers are always looking for new ways to give their stores and staff the competitive 'edge'. Recently I have been on a development course designed to develop a 'can do' attitude in myself and my colleagues, using this to give great customer service. Traditionally, the course I attended has been used very successfully within a typical retail market, perhaps not something you would associate immediately with the healthcare sector.
