Verum writes: Why does the media feel it necessary to paint such a depressing picture of wearing spectacles?

The eye-catching headline was 'end to reading glasses' and 'now lasers could beat the curse of long sight'. The article went on to claim there were not one, but three possible future treatments that would remove the need for spectacles. The first was a laser refractive surgery treatment for long sight, another a black ring with a pin hole placed in the pupil, the third a small magnifying lens placed in the anterior chamber. The article did not explain that these were surgical procedures with the risks attached.
