View from ABDO: Is the Foresight Project Report a future challenge or opportunity?

Still slightly bleary eyed after reading the full report, I have come to the conclusion that the findings are not all doom and gloom – even for a fifty-something DO like me.

If you have been living under a rock for the last decade, you will be forgiven for failing to grasp that global technological development is rapidly transforming our lives in all manner of ways. If we buy some gadget today it will be superseded tomorrow – it’s often out-of-date before we take the wrapper off.

The optics profession is also involved – long gone are the days of manual perimeters, and (I’m showing my age now) a cash box and receipt book. We are now firmly in the age of multi-location electronic practice management systems and high definition 3D digital imaging of the innermost surfaces of the eye.
