View from ABDO: Simple and effective communication

Simple and effective communication with our members, eye care professionals and the public is essential

Simple and effective communication with our members, eye care professionals and the public is essential. The ABDO website has always been packed with valuable information but with the shift to accessing the internet from computers to mobile devices it was time for change. Last month ABDO launched its new website which has much improved accessibility on mobile along with a fresh new look for more traditional devices.

The new site has additional and improved online resources to support members. The navigation better enables you to find what you are looking for.

New to the site is Dispensing Optics online, providing news and features for all to read with additional content for members only. A recent survey with our members overwhelmingly proved they wanted to retain the print version of Dispensing Optics but there was significant interest in accessing news and features online too, which is where this new section comes in. There is also a new online job vacancy section.

As always, the website offers full details of all ABDO staff, board, committee and regional teams enabling you to find and contact who you want with ease. New to the site is live chat enabling members to chat with ABDO staff during the hours of 9-5pm, which is proving popular already.

The format of the advice and guidance section is much improved: the same high-quality A&G but it is now simple to find what you want quickly for members and non-members.

The site also includes useful information for the public including careers in optic, eye care FAQ and a facility to help people find an optician.

Since the launch last month DO online has been the most viewed section. There are further developments with staged release over the next 12 months.
