This month we published research into risks in the optical professions, which identifies current and future risks posed to patients and the public by optical professionals.
Generally, the research revealed that compared to other healthcare professions, optometry and dispensing optics remain low risk. However, the research showed this risk could increase as registrants take on more clinical work with patients with more complex needs.
The research was carried out by Enventure Research, an independent research agency, and included an online registrant survey, focus groups and in-depth interviews with registrants and key stakeholders. Our GOC Fitness to Practise (FTP) data and information from the Optical Consumer Complaints Service (OCCS) were also analysed.
