
The summer holidays are upon us. A time to dig out the bucket and spade, reach for the swimming gear and head to the seaside. But what can we do as eye care professionals to ensure we are giving our patients the help they need to look after their eye health in the summer sun?
For contact lens wearers in particular, summer holidays can throw up unexpected challenges – from the logistical issues of getting your 250ml bottle of contact lens solution onto a plane to the difficulties of sticking to your day-to-day CL routine when travelling.
As respected eye care professionals we should be doing all we can to equip patients with help, advice and guidance on what they can do to ensure their eyes remain healthy wherever they are in the world.
It doesn’t have to be ground-breaking pearls of wisdom. A few simple reminders can go a long way. Remember to remove your daily disposables on an overnight flight, pack some spares and recommend using well fitted googles if swimming in your lenses. Contact lenses and water do not mix.
