Love Your Lenses Week was a big success in raising patient awareness of how to wear contact lenses safely.
The GOC co-ordinated the campaign after research showed poor awareness and compliance of some of the key dos and don’ts of good contact lens care.
The campaign reached millions of people across traditional and social media and we have committed to repeating the week from March 24-30, 2018. We owe a big thanks to everyone who got involved by spreading the word, or by holding in-store events.
But with the annual week still a long way off, it is important we all keep the momentum up in reminding patients what good contact lens care looks like.
This summer millions of people will be jetting off on their holidays, so what a perfect opportunity to remind them to takes their lenses out or wear watertight goggles when swimming in the pool or at the beach.
In October comes Halloween, where would-be vampires need reminding that their zero-powered fancy dress lenses need to be treated with care.
And all-year-round it is vital that patients ‘don’t lose sight of their optician’ and have regular check-ups with their optometrist or contact lens optician.
So although we are hoping 2018’s Love Your Lenses Week will be even bigger than 2017’s, we can all do so much to educate patients between now and then.
The loveyourlenses.com website remains live and is a great source of information for patients on how to look after their lenses. This includes all the dos and don’ts for your lenses, wearers’ stories and a fun quiz.
We have all got a responsibility to make sure patients love their lenses and look after their eyes – so do not think you need to wait until 2018 to get involved again.
