On April 1 the GOC’s new Standards of Practice come into effect. All fully qualified registrants will have to abide by the standards instead of the existing Code of Conduct and, for the first time, there will now be separate Standards for Optical Students.
The standards are designed to support registrants and raise standards by making much clearer our expectations as the regulator.
Whereas our current Code of Conduct simply has top-line statements that registrants must follow, the new standards will provide greater detail about what those statements mean in practice and therefore what our expectations really are.
When applying to renew their GOC registration this year, all fully-qualified registrants had to confirm that they had read and would abide by the standards. They will also have to do the same when using MyCET for the first time this year.
