Specsavers optometrist Judy Lea reflects on a uniquely difficult year in practice

Thanks to Satvinder for his excellent columns this year. I wish him well as he concentrates his energies on leading his practices through this difficult time.

In my practice, we have welcomed back our furloughed staff and even hired extra people to help us provide a safe and efficient service. Returning staff have commented about how different their job seems. There isn’t a role that has stayed the same, with personal protective equipment, social distancing and adapted routines for patient-facing staff and pre-appointment triage checks for our office teams. There aren’t any signs of this virus going away and having moved into tier two in our area, we are vigilant with our infection control. I’m glad to say that this is becoming routine. Some colleagues have needed more support than others in adapting to change, others have adapted very easily.
