View from the High Street: ‘If we embrace new technology then the advice and care to our patients improves’

As our customers become more tech-savvy they will demand the latest innovations, says Ross Campbell

Robert Campbell specsaversThe rate at which technology continues to develop is astonishing. There seems to be an app for almost everything; even for things that you didn’t know you needed an app. A few weeks ago a colleague used his smart phone to remotely lock his car doors while in a meeting we were both attending. His wife had inadvertently forgot to lock the car, so the car let him know, and from a distance of more than one hundred miles the doors were secured.

Some of the driving forces behind technological change are a combination of innovation and necessity. Companies such as Apple are well known for their innovation. Indeed they have a history of creating devices that the world didn’t know it was unable to live without. For example, the iPad was only released in 2010, and ushered in a now-booming market for tablet devices. As with all successful technology, the iPad has become so ubiquitous we now don’t know what we would do without a tablet device.
