I remember working in the Royal Glamorgan Hospital when Xalatan (latanoprost) was launched. Glaucoma consultants were excited about this drug simplifying treatment. At the time, most glaucoma patients were taking drops twice a day at least.

The rest is history, as they say, with latanoprost and other prostaglandin analogues commonplace. While there are those who need management with other drops in combination, glaucoma is generally less onerous for patients to manage, isn’t it?

About four years ago, I was diagnosed with hypertension; hardly surprising given my family history, slightly more sedentary lifestyle then pre-Covid, caffeine intake and legendary love of pies. A once daily lercanidipine 10mg tablet was agreed as the best way forward. Simple right?
