Viewpoint: Diary of a spectacle designer

As Covid-19 gets a bit too close for comfort, Tom Davies wants to test his way out of trouble

I had something brilliant to write about this month – picking up on the news item a few weeks ago about the studies showing that glasses wearers seem to get infected less by Covid-19 (Optician 22.09.20).

I even wrote a piece for The Daily Mail about how Heston Blumenthal’s glasses might ‘save your life.’ Then a storm started brewing.

From a personal perspective, I’ve agreed with the Swedish approach to dealing with Covid-19. Naturally, I’ve done all the right things for the business and staff – who wear PPE such as masks, visors, gloves and aprons. The factory has a one-way system and so much alcoholic sanitiser everywhere that it has the potential to go up like a firework factory.
