Tom Davies finds his history of making eyewear for films is most helpful when there’s a photoshoot to arrange

‘What are you smiling about?’ my wife asked me this morning as I chomped my Weetabix. ‘I’m looking forward to going to work,’ I said. Another day in my lovely factory.

This morning, I was chatting to a casting director who specialises in extras. I’ve hired her to help me out with my new eyewear photoshoots and was talking about the models for my forthcoming photoshoots. I’m not hiring our usual models this time. Instead, I’ve decided to hire film extras as, due to the recently ended actors’ strike, there is a lot of talent in this industry currently not working. As we were chatting, she asked me how I got into designing glasses for films. It was a good question and one I’m not often asked, so I’ll tell the tale here.
