Viewpoint: Empathising with patients

I have just completed a wonderful session of self-learning CPD. I know, for many, that may not seem unusual. But this one truly caused me to stop and think about what it is we do as clinicians.

The module was about patient perspectives related to recognising and addressing the burden of eye disease with specific reference to diabetic macular oedema.

There was a lot of coverage of the clinical side, including treatment options and the progress that has been made with time intervals between treatments, as well as the delivery mode of the drugs used. It was all highly informative and incredibly useful to know. But what really struck me with this particular piece of CPD was the emphasis on the perspective of the patient.
