Jo Osborne outlines Specsavers’ approach to social responsibility through eye care for the homeless

What comes to mind when you think of sustainability? Perhaps recycling? Maybe reducing carbon emissions? The importance of minimising our impact on the environment? It’s all these things and more. But sustainability is also about people and communities and their long-term wellbeing.

Being responsible and caring for each other is a key step on our collective sustainability journey. Readers of Optician magazine will well understand this as custodians of the eye health of communities throughout the country. Every day, you provide expert, essential health services to those who need them.

For Specsavers, community is at the heart of our mission to change lives through better sight and hearing. We believe that access to better health services is a basic human right, not a privilege. So, we want to make sure we reach people that need it most by breaking down some of the barriers to accessing eye and ear care.
