My last post - a number of days ago it must be said - contemplated consumers and their inability to follow instructions, in this particular instance with hydrogen peroxide solution. I confessed that I too had experience of failing to neutralise lenses and said that the fault wasn't really with manufacturers who cannot be on hand to ensure we follow their instructions. Then I went and did something really stupid. In a bid not to wake my two-year-old son, whose bedroom is next to the bathroom, I decided to take my contact lenses out by the sink with the lights turned off. The first lens came out successfully - I'm a veteran with over 20 years of soft lens wear. However, when I went to grab the second lens, it didn't budge. I tried several times to no avail and, in some discomfort, had to put the bathroom light on. It was then that I realised I had been trying to remove a lens from the eye that was lens-free. Being in the picth dark, my vision was so poor that I hadn't noticed which eye had the lens in it. There then followed four contact-lens-free days as my bloodshot eye recovered from my ham-fisted assault. From now on, the bathroom light definitely goes on when I take out my contact lenses.
