Now consider the following case.

Case study

Mr BH (52 years of age) attended for a routine eye examination. He is a low hypermetrope with a +1.75DS reading addition and this is his first eye examination having previously relied upon ‘over the counter ready mades.’ He has no concerns but was advised by his partner to ‘get a proper test.’

He is Caucasian, has no family history of relevance, and no history himself of any known eye concerns. He has open anterior chamber angles. Pre-screening by an optical assistant found the following;

Fields – full on a C40 suprathreshold test

IOP; R 19mmHg L 20mmHg @17.30 (averaged 4 NCT readings – no outliers)

On ophthalmoscopy, the discs show an evenly pink neuroretinal rim that follows ISNT rule, a vertical C/D ratio of 0.25 with good symmetry.

To gain your CET point you are required to discuss the following with another GOC registered practitioner and consider the following;

  • Is there any measurement here that might suggest further action?
  • What might this further action be?

Remember, there may be a divergence of views – we simply need to know what you and your colleague think and why.

Remember, your interaction should last for at least 10 minutes (and completion of the submission will be taken as your statement that this is true) and you will be required to submit the outcome of your discussion along with the name and GOC number of the person with whom you have interacted on the following pages. Once you submit your responses, our review team will either:

  • Confirm completion and an interactive CET point
  • Ask by email for further clarification
  • Suggest that too little information was submitted this time for a point to be awarded
