Campbell, who splits his time between St Thomas' Hospital, community practice and his doctorate programme, says: 'I've really enjoyed entering a different field of optometry, learning new optometric tests, different ways of approaching research and how to broaden my role as an optometrist.'

Campbell selected his field of study in response to NICE Glaucoma Guidelines recommending an increased role for community optometrists in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma and glaucoma suspect patients. 'Optometrists, nurse practitioners and related health professionals working in glaucoma shared cared schemes can help to relieve hospital departments stretched by the increasing prevalence of glaucoma in an ageing population,' he says.
