Conference: In Dublin’s fair city

Eye care professions in Ireland have evolved rapidly in recent years. So, it was more than fitting that, after the enforced hiatus, the annual conference of the European Academy of Optometry and Optics (EAOO) combined, as in previous years, with the spring meeting of the European Council of Optometry and Optics (ECOO) was this year held in Dublin.


The ECOO General Assembly, and committee meetings, were presided over by Dr Cindy Tromans. There was, unsurprisingly, much to catch up on. Topics for discussion ranged from myopia management, orthoptics and charging for optometric services through to the symptoms of long Covid, the provision of support for Ukrainians and a new initiative to help Hungarian orphanages. The need to develop guidance about sustainability also figured prominently.
