In a week that has seen a less than coordinated approach to the recovery from pandemic in some quarters, Bill Harvey highlights some updates from the frontline

After some of the comedic performances in the US recently, I was saddened but not surprised to hear tales of, for example, the man who died after drinking an industrial preparation of chloroquine, or of continuing problems among patients with lupus in getting hold of their prescribed medicine. I was surprised, though, to read that the UK government has spent £35 million in stockpiling the drug ‘so it can be distributed among the population if required.’1

We also continue to see some disparity in approach to the easing of lockdown within our government which this week took a more worrying turn. In what may be preparation of the likely defence to be used in any future inquiry, some doubt was cast over the validity of always adhering to scientific advice. Though some comments were soon dismissed by Number 10, we all recognise how their PR machine knows the value of ‘planting seeds’.
