In Focus: Call to maintain NHS eye care in Scotland

Scotland has an opportunity to build a world class eye health service, according to recommendations made in a new report published by Optometry Scotland.

The performance of community optometry before and during Covid-19 was examined over three months and it was concluded that Scotland should maintain universal, NHS-funded eye care in the future.

Improved infrastructure for equality of eye care in home settings and rural communities, as well as improved coordination and cooperation with charities and community groups was also recommended.

An expert working group produced the report, which made recommendations to the Scottish Government for future proofing and enhancing community eye care in Scotland.
