In focus: Finding the right fit for presbyopes

The launch of a new contact lens at an event near Stratford last week sparked debate on what the future holds for the presbyopia market. Chris Bennett reports 

Nineteen extra patients each month will be walking into your practice within the next two years and they will all be there for the same reason – they are getting older and near vision has become difficult.

This calculation is not extrapolated from the expected success of a new marketing campaign or the result of public education by the optical bodies. These extra 19 people will arrive at your practice simply because of demographics and the greater proportion of the population who will be presbyopic.

The simple numbers and stark facts were delivered by Alcon as it launched its latest contact lens for presbyopes, Total Dailies 1 Multifocal, in the Midlands last week.
