ECPs discussed delegation within sight tests as part of the recent consultation

Dispensing opticians could be able to conduct a refraction as part of a sight test if feedback provided by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) forms part of changes to the Opticians Act.

ABDO is forming its response to the General Optical Council’s consultation on the Opticians Act and called for dispensing opticians to provide their views.

The professional body highlighted the need to protect the public by ensuring the sight test continued to involve a refraction and eye health check.

It said refractions carried out by dispensing opticians would free up the time of optometrists to support a wider range of clinical activities.
