Looking at labs: Workmanship in Worcester

There have been a few forks in the road for Neil Jones, the co-founder of Ultimate Edge Glazing, but his latest venture finds itself flying down the home straight. Joe Ayling travelled to Worcester to find out more

Strong relationships with independent practices, lens suppliers and frame brands alike have given one Midlands glazing lab a real ‘edge’ over its competitors.

Experience also goes a long way, and one of Ultimate Edge Glazing’s directors has undoubtedly ‘got the t-shirt’ when it comes to ophthalmic lenses.

Situated near the centre of Worcester on Shrub Hill Industrial Estate, the glazing lab can call itself a trusted destination for brands including Lindberg, Eyespace, Flair, TAG Heuer and Silhouette. It specialises in rimless frames, but also assembles metal, plastic, supra and wrap-around designs.

Pulling into Worcester Shrub Hill station on a train from Paddington, an estate of industrial units appears behind the embankment. Among them is an iconic brick building that formerly served as the station’s coach house, which now houses a number of innovative businesses out to show UK manufacturing is alive and well.
