Nature and snowboards inspire Mido trendsetters

Trends may come and go but Milan will always be Italy’s fashion capital. Jo Gallacher scanned Mido to find this year’s most popular women’s styles

Alternative frame material is always a welcome change for both the eyewear designer and consumer. While acetate and metals continue to dominate, more and more companies are opting to expand their production materials and the results have been exciting.

From buffalo horn to vinyl records, few materials are off limits, but this year’s Mido saw an overwhelming number of companies using natural materials in their women’s collections.

Run by three Parisian school friends, French company Rezin has begun to combine materials such as cork and granite within its wide range of wooden frames.

‘Our collection has expanded, plus we now make our wooden frames with acetate tips,’ says founder Clément Daniel. ‘We’ve had problems with this in the past and so have other companies, but now they can be easily changed for a better fit.’
